Nobody Decides to Drift

Friday, October 2, 2026 · Pastor Reyes Castillo

“Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things that were heard, lest haply we drift away from them.”

Hebrews 2:1

If you've felt far from God lately and can't point to the day it happened, I understand. Most of us never walk away. We get tired, we get busy, and one morning the shore looks farther off than it used to.

I've been there. Nothing was wrong with my faith or my calling. My attention just went everywhere except Him.

He hasn't moved, and He isn't standing on the shore with His arms crossed. Turn toward Him this morning, even a little. That's enough to start.

You don't have to close the distance before you come back. You only have to turn around.

Maybe you're tired this morning and the day hasn't even started. Prayer may have felt like talking into a quiet room for a while now. Life got loud, and the current carried you a little further than you meant to go. He hasn't gone anywhere.

He saw every week that pulled at you. He isn't keeping count of how far you went.

So give Him the first few minutes of this day. Read one verse slowly. Say His name before you pick up your phone. Sit still long enough to notice He's been right here.

The shore is closer than it looks.

The story behind it

I know this one because I've lived it. There was a season when I was paddling against the current until I couldn't anymore. Nothing was wrong with my faith or my calling. My attention had wandered to other voices, people with opinions and no wisdom, and I had stopped listening for His.

I told our Wednesday night family about it on September 30. I'm telling you because I don't think I'm the only one.

Pray

Lord, I've drifted further than I meant to. Thank You for staying right where You've always been. I turn my face toward You this morning. Hold my attention today, and bring me a little closer with every step. Amen.

Say it today

I am loved. I am never too far to turn around.
