“I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”
Philippians 4:11
Paul wrote that while he was in chains.
Contentment was something he learned, one hard day at a time. It grows in the same place your trust does.
Whatever state you're in this morning, He's in it with you.

Most of us are waiting for something to change before we let ourselves rest. The bank account, the relationship, the phone call.
Paul learned another way. He'd been full and he'd been hungry, and he found that Christ was enough in both, so he stopped waiting for his circumstances to give him permission to have peace.
You can practice that today. Thank Him for one thing in the middle of what's hard.
The story behind it
Fanny Crosby was blind from the time she was six weeks old. As a girl she worried she would never get an education, but she decided to be as content as she could and to trust that all would be well.
When she was eight or nine years old, she wrote a little poem about it. It ends with these lines:
“To weep and sigh because I'm blind / I cannot nor I won't.”
She grew up to write hymns that churches still sing.
Pray
Lord, teach me to trust You in the middle of what I'd change if I could. Let Your peace settle me today. Amen.
Say it today
I am content in my Father's care.
Come as you are.
